Neighbour Next Door: Yiddish in Israeli contemporary art
June-July 2007
The project features works of art in which Yiddish constitutes a central tenant. Through the use of Yiddish the art works ask questions about the crystallisation of personal identity in relation to language and about the relationship between the language and place. The artists’ treatment of the language is intimate yet at the same time political. All participating artists are closely involved with the Yiddish language, and which has been present in their work, in one form or another, for many years.
The project features works by the following artists:
Ariela Plotkin
Ariel Yanai-shani
Doron Lackman
Dov Seltzer & Avraham Sutzkever
