Polish Heroes: Those Who Rescued Jews Collaborative Educational Photographic Project

The Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Oswiecim, and the Polish American Jewish Alliance for Youth Action have joined their efforts to plan a series of activities to pay tribute to the Polish Righteous Among the Nations. Polish Heroes: Those Who Rescued Jews is a story of great heroism, courage, and sacrifice, and one that has not yet been fully told. The centerpiece of the project will be a photographic exhibition of these Poles now living in the Krakow area, with photographs by noted photographer and the founder/director of the Galicia Jewish Museum, Chris Schwarz. The exhibition will open in Krakow in May 2006 and in Oswiecim in late summer, with an accompanying catalogue. It will later be available as an international traveling exhibition. An academic conference and a series of educational programs for Polish schools will follow the opening of the exhibition, throughout which there will be the opportunity to meet with the individuals included in the exhibition or watch their video testimonies.
